Choose the voltage-control strategy that fits the site

The right topology is determined by the voltage profile, load risk, minimum-voltage margin, operating variability and project objective - not by product preference alone.

Fixed-ratio voltage optimisation

A fixed-ratio system reduces the incoming voltage by a substantially consistent amount. It can suit sites with persistently elevated, comparatively stable voltage and adequate downstream margin.

  • Simple operating concept
  • Requires proof that the lowest credible input condition will not create unacceptable downstream voltage
  • Output follows input variation, offset by the selected reduction
  • Assessment should include seasonal and operational extremes
Dynamically regulated voltage optimisation

A dynamic system regulates output toward an engineered setpoint or control band as incoming conditions vary. It may suit sites with wider voltage movement, changing operating modes or tighter requirements at sensitive loads.

  • Controlled output within the designed operating range
  • Setpoint, tolerance, response, fail state and bypass philosophy must be documented
  • Control interaction with generation, storage, UPS and other regulating equipment must be reviewed
  • Commissioning should test credible operating modes, not only a single steady state
Buck, boost and bidirectional requirements

Some applications may require voltage reduction only; others may need the ability to maintain voltage when supply conditions fall. Any buck/boost requirement must be defined from measured conditions and coordinated with protection, ratings and permissible operating limits.

Selection output

The engineering assessment should document the recommended topology, rating basis, output strategy, voltage envelope, bypass arrangement, predicted net result, risks, exclusions and verification plan.
